What My New Logo Encompasses

Meaning of line drawing of Nickel & I:

Nickel is my heart horse & while Peppy is the bones of Reining It In, Nickel is the horse that makes me come alive due to his personality & constantly having to navigate his needs. Peppy has always done everything, which is what makes him an amazing horse, but he is merely quieter & more laid back whereas Nickel is loud & bold. Nickel responds to unfair training methods differently, Nickel is boldly expressive (Hancock-bred). This drawing shows how emotionally regulated he has become recently due to the flip to mindful training methods. While he is still boldly expressive, he has been given the ability to enter receiving energy, something most horses are unfamiliar with.

I want to showcase this in my logo to express how the Nickel’s facial expression shows that he is relaxed despite his active personality. I want to normalize seeking emotional regulation as opposed to the mental & physical dysfunction we know today. Every horse deserves & appreciates it. I know this because I have been the trainer & teacher who focuses on dominating for compliance over humble understanding for partnership when in my heart I knew dominance was wrong. Today, my horses thank me for the changes I have made & continue to make.

What I stand for:

Reining It In stands for more than the play on words involving riding horses, but reining ourselves in to better serve our horses by understanding them & discontinuing domination, anthropomorphism, inappropriate nutrition, general un- & misinformation, insufficient bodywork, etc.

That is what this line drawing encompasses; a trainer who understands the needs of the animal in front of her first by keeping herself in check, then encompasses the ability to listen to & speak his language - humility. So, what do I stand for?

  • Fair husbandry & training through equine regard

  • Our mental/physical balance heavily affects our equine’s mental/physical balance

  • The equipment we use can have detrimental effects on the equine mind & body

  • Precise, intentional groundwork is the basis for everything

  • Partnership-focused horsemanship

  • Increased movement via living environment makes all the difference mentally & physically

  • Being a persistent student myself, teaching active equine ownership & horsemanship is a burning passion

  • A human-horse team can do anything through mindful methods, even barrel racing, & we come out ahead indefinitely

I aspire to convey to the world that it’s okay to have a past of not doing the right thing. I have been there & have come back stronger because of it. It is never too late to pump the brakes & change direction.

“By wisdom a house is built,

    and through understanding it is established;

through knowledge its rooms are filled

    with rare and beautiful treasures.”

Proverbs 24:3-4

What matters is that we seek to know & do better, be active caretakers, constantly reevaluating to ensure the best is being offered. It is never too late to do what is good & right. I am living proof.
